Joy Ngiaw is a Malaysian film and TV composer known for her emotionally rich and inventive scores. She first gained recognition for the score of Blush (Apple TV+), Skydance Animation’s inaugural short film, which earned her the Best Music Award from Hollywood Music in Media and an Annie nomination in 2021. Joy’s second Annie nomination followed for her score on the sci-fi adventure trilogy WondLa (Apple TV+), where she collaborated with industry icons such as John Lasseter (Toy Story). She also made history as the youngest composer to score a major studio logo for Skydance Animation.
Other credits include Mattel/Netflix’s series Barbie Mysteries: The Great Horse Chase, Netflix/CBS's series Glamorous, Walt Disney Animation Studios' Short Circuit, and Netflix's Rescued by Ruby.
As a pianist and vocalist, Joy brings a distinct and innovative touch to her music, experimenting with tones, textures, and vocal techniques such as breaths, mouth percussion, hums, and nature-inspired sounds. Her ability to craft emotionally evocative, nostalgic scores has become a defining characteristic of her work.
In 2022, Joy’s talent was recognized with a nomination for the prestigious Emerging Talent award by the Society of Composers and Lyricists. She was one of eight composers selected for the competitive NBCUniversal Composers Initiative and was named a BAFTA Breakthrough USA honoree in 2024, solidifying her place as a leading voice among the new generation of film composers.
An advocate for diversity and inclusion, Joy serves as an executive board member of the Composers Diversity Collective, championing underrepresented voices in the film scoring industry. Currently based in Los Angeles, she is proudly represented by William Morris Endeavor.
