Mini Bio
Based in New York City, Imani Garner was born in Washington DC, where she was reared in the non-for-profit arts world. She earned a Bachelor of Music from New York University in Music Business and is currently a 2nd year M.F.A candidate in the Media Scoring program at Brooklyn College, Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema, with focus on music supervision and composition.
Imani was selected as a 2021-2022 mentee with the Society of Composers and Lyricists, and served as a judging panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts in 2021. She currently serves as the Vice-Chairman of the Board at Beats By Girlz, a 501c3, whose mission is to promote the advancement of girls and women in music production and technology.
She works as an administrator for the General Counsel of Paramount Global (f/k/a ViacomCBS) and has previously coordinated with the Creative Music Strategy team on music clearance rights and rescores utilizing its in-house music production library.
Imani is skilled and/or is training in composition (creating original score), music supervision, orchestration, and music production. She also has extensive contractual and business knowledge ranging from composer deals to film licensing agreements and copyright. She is currently working on two student shorts as composer and music supervisor and looking forward to completing her graduate thesis this coming year. She is presently interested in transitioning to a full-time role within music supervision.
An experienced traveler, Imani has visited over 30 countries, studying arts disciplines in Cuba and South Africa and counts ethnomusicology as a hobby.
